CONCLUSION

Internet telephony delivers most or part of the telephone calls through the worldwide Internet, which technically offers free transfer of information. Theoretically the only costs are the connection of the call to the Internet from the originating telephone and the delivery of the call from the Internet to its destination telephone.

The projections for internet telephony are impressive: a third of all voice traffic will be carried over the Net by the turn of the century, with 16 million people using "netphones" by then.

Whether one decides to use PC-to-PC telephony, PC-to-phone telephony or phone-to-phone telephony giving all the advantages of each method one will certainly reduce their phone accounts. Most companies including Alcatel, Siemens, Lucent Technologies etc are investing huge amounts of capital into voice over IP technologies as these companies know the huge advantages that Internet telephony can provide for the customer as well as the operators.

As the saying goes "If the technology is there, use it!"
